I just bought a cut down beater model 94 (16.5″) with what I am sure is a later butt stock. I bought it as a truck gun. Bore looks great action is smooth and tight.
BUT the Top tang screw which looks to be the proper screw will only thread in a couple turns. I am sure it just needs a good chasing with a Tap (the screw itself looks good) my research on line says 12-28t I can buy that tap local but thought I would verify before trying to ruin something.

That’s probably because 12-28 is considered a fine thread and most hardware/box stores only carry course for stuff like plumbing pipes and such. That a common problem with almost all gunsmithing screw sizes.
