My old brain just recalled needing to drop off a friend at a auto repair shop to pick up his Dodge truck while at the CGCA show at Greely last year…I won’t mention any names, but he likes to write about Winchester 22’s……..
Well, dang it! I forgot about that but thanks again for the lift, it was greatly appreciated.
So there is no confusion, it was just routine maintenance, apparently you have to replace the brake pads after 200,000 miles…..
I am looking forward to the CO show and the Noodle House again. My bottle of “Smolder in Boulder” is almost empty.
Merry Christmas!

OfflineJust to follow-up on the main topic, are people still receiving an unusual amount of new post notifications via email?

Best Regards,
No rhyme, reason or consistent timetable, it just happens occasionally out of the blue. I’ll get 4 or 5 emails on a post that I haven’t subscribed to in a couple hours and then nothing for a couple days to a week or two

OfflineI get an email occasionally about posts on the 1892 survey thread but I don’t think I’m subscribed to it. Been getting them for years and it’s no biggie unless it helps you find the glitch. I get dozens of less interesting emails every day!

OfflineObviously there is a hidden gem somewhere in the system which we can continue to look for. I was formerly subscribed only to the Survey forum and, ironically, it is the only topic I do not get notifications from…..

Best Regards,
Now that you mention it I don’t get e-mail notifications for the topics it appears I am subscribed to, I probably need to look over my settings.

OfflineI got a notification of that post as a moderator, it notified me that it was awaiting me (or Bert) to approve the post. If it did not need moderation I probably would not have gotten a notification (unless something has changed).

Just received an email notice for a recent post on the M56-M57 thread
I got that notification, too. Ganderite has a pretty cool 56. I think I am subscribed to that thread.

ETA I don’t appear to be subscribed to the 56/57 thread but maybe I should. I have gotten other notifications on that thread. Interesting.

Best Regards,
As the Forum Admin, I receive notification emails for 100% of the New posts, and 100% of the Reply messages that are posted. There are days when I receive 200+ notification messages. The Bulk delete option is my savior if I choose to use it.

OnlineWe may be dealing with the Inalterable Will of Objects. [See note 1]
The IWoO phenomenon can be observed in a shop environment, when trying to tighten the mounting screws of a 1960 Weaver scope ring without disturbing the 0 degree vertical and 90 degree horizontal positions of the crosshairs…
Or when attempting to mill a slot freehand with a small handheld router…
Or when trying to retrieve a hairlike detent plunger spring that has launched itself into a pile of debris behind the work bench…

Note 1. Physical objects like the wire coat hangers that multiply in a dark closet; not virtual objects some Microsoft nerds keep trying to make into a programming language. Apparently unable to get a date with humans of the reliably opposite sex, that’s how these creatures spend their solitary evenings.

I dropped a small threaded plug and it took 2 days of dragging a magnet all over the area where I dropped it to finally find it. Usually I don’t find things that easily.

OfflineI keep a running list of everything I have dropped on the floor and lost in my shop because usually, when a part turns up during the annual shop cleaning, it is much later and I have forgotten what the little spring, screw or ball goes to.
I have seen a lot of internet tips to prevent this occurrence, like disassembly of the firearm in the shower with the door closed. The first time I tried this technique a small detent ball under spring pressure shot out, ricocheted around the inside of the shower enclosure and landed on the white floor, right in view. While I was congratulating myself about this great idea, it rolled down the drain.

OfflineJeff, Ben, et al. If small enough, I’ve learned to assemble or disassemble inside a gallon storage bag. Those who know me well, know my hands now shake very badly and if a small item is small enough, first thing I do is drop it! Spring pressure shoots small items into the darkest, most dusty, crappy laden corner of my shop! Storage bags stop that. Tim

OnlineI once had 800 board feet of rough White oak stacked and stickered in my garage shop. A friend and shooting school partner now sadly departed, was showing me how to change the recoil spring set on his 3″ Kimber 45 ACP. Something slipped and the new spring set flew off in a high arc, hit an overhead fixture and dropped into the middle of the wood stack. Several years later, I moved the remaining lumber out onto the covered patio. Found the spring set in a ball of sawdust, rat feces, and dirt. By then my friend was dead and my own Kimber was gone. It would take a bag bigger than a gallon for that chore.
But I’ve gone back to an aluminum 38 snubby in a pocket. All my enemies are dead, anyway.

OfflineZeb, usually only one hand and the part(s) go in the bag. Keep the other hand (and your head) out of the bag! When doing the recoil springs on 1911’s, hook a finger through the trigger guard and thumb over the plug end. BTW, you only think your enemies are dead! New ones step forward all the time. They don’t need to know you or be known, they just happen. Tim
