a pretty basic question but I have never seen a reason why the .38 and .44 carbine magazines are attached to the barrel differently than .25 and .32’s. Thanks from a new member

The diameter of the barrel and magazine tube on the .38 & .44 caliber carbines is nearly symmetrical in relationship to the barrel, whereas the magazine tube diameter on the .25 & .32 caliber carbines is significantly smaller. The forward barrel band used on the .38 & .44 caliber Model 1892 carbines was also a carry-over from the Model 1873 Carbines.

The 1892 carbine barrel band for the .38-40 and .44-40 will interchange with all five calibers in the model 1894 carbine. It will not work on the model 1873 carbine, as the barrel diameter at the muzzle is slightly larger.
