I need some help identify this Winchester brass plate. Its approx. 6″ long   and just under 1″ wide. It was found hanging in an basement in an old house in Bridgeport, Connecticut.  It would appear to be some type of labeling item for a box, crate, or shelving unit or parts drawer ??

I would say it came off a display case from a store display.

I was thinking that too. I looked at the “Winchester store ” photos in the Summer 2016 WACA Journal but I couldn’t zoom in enough.  I that’s what it is there is a good chance he has something like this.

The back is blank brass color with the remains of some old glue.

sgtsemo,

I havent ran across one like you have there.  Here is a pic of a couple of original plates (in bad shape due to smoke/fire) that go to a gun cabinet. These were affixed at the top of the cabinet doors.  Probably date to the 1920’s.  IMG_3250.JPGImage EnlargerDSC09254.JPGImage EnlargerIMG_3268.JPGImage Enlarger

Very similar , that is one nice piece of old furniture! Great for a gun room. What are you doing with it after some restoration and TLC.

Not sure what to do with them.  They have survived two fires and then 35 years in a hay barn before I was able to move them to the old farrowing house on the place.  They are larger than most could accommodate in a house, at a little more than 7′ tall and 8′ long each, wherever they end up will have to be big.

I have to agree that is some nice old furniture you have there!  I’d have to figure out somewhere in the house to put it at but it would find a place.  if you ever restore her you have got to post pics of this massive piece of furniture.
