Bill, there is a Model 94 RCMP Centennial Musket Commemorative for sale at Ellwood Epps Sporting Goods in Orillia, Ontario. The price is $1,499 CAD (about $1,077 USD). I attached a pic. Here is the link:

Thanks Pete, that is a great RCMP but sadly not the one I’m looking for. There were 4 RCMP commemoratives made. The one you found, one made specifically for RCMP members, a movie model called the MPX and a rare Presentation model of only 10. I’m literally looking for a needle in a haystack but if I don’t look, I will certainly never find one! I appreciate the heads up and odds are if one is out there it is in Canada as they were a Canadian only issue! All the RCMP’s are special and the one you found I was lucky enough to get the #16 in an auction where I was fortunately the only interested bidder! For every one of those, it seems you get 10 the other way 😀 Thank you again my friend for sending me the link and appreciate the help!

Bill,

Just an observation for you to consider... your Model 1892 rifle most definitely does not retain "90% + or – original factory bluing". The refinished (case colored) receiver frame retains 0% of its original factory bluing. While it is highly likely that the hammer, lever, and the butt plate were originally case color finished, they also now retain 0% of their factory original finish due to being refinished. What you have is an incorrectly refinished/restored rifle.

Tom,

Getting a real one that doesn't underlap the face of the Walnut butt will be the real trick, since the factory shaped the stock with buttplate installed. Something you didn't need me to tell you.

How good is the appearance of the replacement steel plate? Does it look "original" -' i.e. fit accurately? Like it was professionally done?

I recall Venturino relating how he shattered a hard rubber buttplate on a subzero day in the mountains. He fell, the gun struck a rock in the snow, and the plate disintegrated.

Not to tell you what to do with your own but, if the rifle were mine and the steel.plate looked factory and was a "correct" option for the gun, I'd hesitate to substitute a reproduction plastic plate. The present plate likely replaced a broken original part and the owner decided to make sure it didn't happen again. That would be a legitimate part of the gun's history.

If the steel plate is unsightly, that's another matter.

And you do need to show pictures to your friends.
