1. Knowing what your gun is worth at retail and wholesale. The best way I know of to do this is, first of all, become a member of Gunbroker if you are not already. This can take some time because they are constantly beset with scammers and fraudulent sellers. Their security protocols are tougher than once. 

2. Being a member allows you to search closed auctions to see what guns like yours have hammered for. It is best to sort search results by "highest number of bids first" rather than dollars because a lot of high dollar starting price auctions close with 0 bids. 

3. Good and extensive photography is very important. Doesn't have to be professional but a couple snaps with a Brownie Hawkeye won't get it done. 

4. Honest descriptions- not just a line or two. 

5. The best way to ensure a sale is a long auction term - two weeks - and a penny start. Yes, there is a risk. The current Money Market rate is your competitor. Dealers shop for inventory on Gunbroker and any nominal start will draw lowball bids. Dealers want to pay about 60% of retail. If your gun is in nice condition AND there is a market for the model, you can usually get at least that. 

6. Another alternative is to set a fixed price and run it for 90 days. It will appear discouraging because the dealers have no interest - you are retailing it. If your gun is hard to find, that is a good way to sell but you must be patient.

The American Single Shot Rifle Association (ASSRA) forum is also a great place to buy and sell single shots. You could list your non-winchester stuff there if you don’t want to go with one of the big guys. Great folks over there, a lot of them are here too.

If you don't want to personally deal with Gunbroker or Guns International there are some good auction companies that will take care of getting you a good price for it.  Lock, Stock and Barrel located in Cody, Wyoming is an example of one of many.  In addition to their standard firearm auctions, LSB lists some guns directly on Gunbroker if requested.

Wow, that one is really on the fence.  While it is a cool Winchester replica, that particular example was not made by Winchester nor was it made under license since the patents have long expired for the 1885 so it does not exactly meet our rules as currently written.  To accommodate the Sharps 1885 would be the same as allowing Uberti replicas, Rossi and Taurus replicas (of the Model 62), etc.

In a nutshell, the original intent was to limit the Swap Meet firearms to only those that are actually marked "Winchester" which is why the rules state "under license" since that is required by Olin to use the name "Winchester" on any firearm.

I will bring up the topic with the WACA board and see if there is any interest in updating the rules as written.

The rules are you may only post about objects that are originally manufactured by or licensed by Winchester (although we do allow Winchester related books).  So, if it is a licensed Winchester replica (such as the Model 52 made by Miroku under license) it is ok.  If it is a replica Sharps and is unrelated to Winchester or licensed by Winchester you may not post it in the Swap Meet.

I know that is a bit confusing but the rules were instituted to keep the Swap Meet area manageable

They have parts & do repairs... at least according to their webpage... They now offer double barrel cannons as well as single barrel cannons.  My recently acquired 1976 "Bi-centennial" cannon is on the mantel... kinda messy, I really need to get stuff put away better....
