Testing the “waters”::::::::

In search of a good usable 1885 or 1886 in a “shooter grade”. What do you have?

Looking for something solid enough to safely shoot the modern smokeless ammo.

Could be a project/fixer upper. (Rusty guns or pea shooters)

Might settle for a good usable 1885 or 1886 barrel.

May even spring for the right rifle if a clean collectible were available.

Took 12 boxes of modern PMC smokeless ammo in a trade. Kinda got the “Cart” in front of the “Horse”.

What’s hiding in the back of your safe? Safe Queens may apply,

An old 1895 Marlin might also work—prefer the Winchester route.

Ben - your post says x73 but I am only familiar with the 72 and 74mm variants?

Have you slugged your drilling? Is is .364? That x72 is a rather rare and odd duck. I think originally BP?

Sometimes sacrifices need to be made...:-) It would be a pleasant two day drive there.... three wonderful days in Cody... meet all sorts of great people (and a few knot heads)... return home with plans made to return next year... 🙂

BTW: Since you like Drillings... I'd happily trade you a 1890's era Sauer 16x16x9.3x72R that has wonderful engraving for one of your "plain" 71's... your choice.

interesting, I have some old Mossberg leather, and they have the same embossing, I suspect there may have been a leathercraft company that catered to gun companies - maybe??
