If I could persuade my daughter-in-law, who is dealing with a large, aggressive Black bear stealing her chickens, we might try out your 1905 for penetration. He looks like 350 pounds, to me, and keeps returning. A bad sign.

Unfortunately, she is reluctant to harm wildlife. Apparently chickens aren't counted.

Very doubtful with a Model 1905 35 W.S.L.
I suppose that it might be adequate for deer at 50-yds (or less), but it positively is not the rifle I would choose for hunting any type of game animal. Because I am not a "black" gun owner, I am more inclined to use it in my home as a short-range self-defense piece. With the 10-round magazine it should provide adequate fire power.

A 180 grain 35 caliber slug at 1350-1400 foot seconds - especially ten of them - is a heavy bullet 357 magnum at carbine velocity, in a very controllable and handy weapon. Autopsy images of the consequences of such are ,,,,, impressive.
My only concerns for it would be overpenetration and corrosion incurred while spending unlubricated months in an evidence locker.

As long as I squarely hit the Perp, over penetration should not be much of a concern. I have my doubts that it would sit in an evidence locker for any length of time, and as well-oiled as it is, I doubt that it would incur any corrosion issues. With as much as it rains here in the PNW, our humidity levels are quite low. As I write this, the outside temperature is 49.7 F with the RH sitting at 54%. As soon as the temp gets to 65 F, I am headed back outside to finish mowing the rest of my yard (again).

I bought it... Don has sold me at least (4) boxes of 35 S.L factory ammo over the past few years. I have stockpiled (8) boxes of it for my Model 1905. On the rare occasion that I shoot it, I have a supply of reloads. I also have (6) boxes of the original factory new 180 grain soft-point .351 bullets.

Bert, you’re killing me man! I have somewhere around 20 loose factory rounds that I fire here and there to get some more brass for my hand loading. I shoot my rifle quite a bit, but have never seen a price as good as $100 for a box including shipping. Too darn bad I missed out!

If you ever want to part with any portion of the ammo or the bullets, you know where to reach me!
