Post some pics and the experts can give you a value.

Or go online and see what they are selling for. Then you can better deal with a gun shop if you choose that route. Many may buy it or take it in on consignment.

I have a 1958 Winchester Model 42 that has been my Dad's since it was bought new for him in 1958 . It has been extremely well cared for and is what I would say is Excellent condition . It is a Field Grade with a plain round barrel. The bluing is 100% on the receiver and barrel and there are slight signs of wear on the slide rail . The stock and fore end are in great shape as well . I was referred to this group in hopes one of you would be interested in it or share some insight as to how to proceed in selling it . I am in Fort Worth , Texas and not a dealer but trying to help my Dad move a few guns from his collection. I have pictures that I took 7/3/2026 . Thanks for the help , Harris Hoover

Okay, before I do any cutting, is the bbl length supposed to be an EXACT 20" from breech face to muzzle? Sometimes manufacturers fudge the numbers a little for convenience, such as a revolver with 2-1/4 inch bbl length being commonly called a "2-inch" . . .

The Solid frame guns were 20". The later Take Down guns were usually 20.5".

Roger,

All of the WW I Model 1897 Trench Guns were the Solid frame variation. The WW II Model 97 Trench Guns were all Take Downs.
