I still have my dads Mod 50, which he got from a friend in 1980. I always figured the buttplate had been changed, these pics confirm it. All us old squirrel hunters used our guns as climbing-walking sticks, thus plastic gets broken! I refinished the wood and my brother had it reblued for him not long after he got it, cause it was beat up badly. It still today looks as good as it did after total refinishing, almost. It turned out his overall favorite Winchester 12ga, which he used many since the 40s squirrel hunting! He would only own Winchester Shotguns, but was understanding of us owning a few Browning n Remingtons! He never did! I remember his old Mod 11, (i think is the correct mod#?) The one you worked the action by pushing in on the barrel? But I hunted it few times myself in 80's. His Strong 2nd favorite was his Mod 1400, which I still remember the box when he brought it home, i believe 1966+- a year. He eventually would laugh at it. When we camped, he'd leave it outside the tent, which we always questioned? He'd laugh and say, Ah I could lay it in the creek overnight it wouldn't hurt it! Believe he was right, but that gun served him 100% faithfully until he got the Mod 50. He never picked up another gun, to go into the woods after the Mod 50 thru his last hunts in mid 80's! My youngest boy killed his first squirrel with it aprox 2000, probably first shot fired since dad. I killed a turkey with it 2005. Bedt my memory its last hunt!

It's Sr # 105248, made 1957 if I remember correctly?

He lived Mod 12's but didn't like pumps. He had one early made, a 20ga, Nickel Steel 26" Mod Barrel that i swear was 97% condition! Like an idiot, he let me trade it to a Mod 25 12ga 30" Full, yes better for squirrels! I slayed lotta squirrels with it up until in early 80's when I traded it to a Belgian Browning A5 Light 12, my all time favorite, other than my Mod 37's, just better in mountains hunting squirrels!

Good afternoon, Ken. I own a Model 50 and the next time I get into the back of my safe I'll verify what I'm showing you here.

I think the buttplate you are looking for has the single word "Winchester" in the usual italicized type, set in a horizontal stippled rectangle from toe to heel. In much smaller type below it the words "Trade Mark" appear in the rectangle. The stippled rectangle is set into a much larger oval of coarse checkering that occupies most of the buttplate.

I found a photo of one on the Web:

I bought a winchester model 50 in 12 ga that has a added rubber recoil pad, I would like to buy a original buttplate for this gun as the stock was not shortened. I have seen the repros for sale with the round logo but I am pretty sure that is not correct for this gun serial number 80,267, does anyone know what it should look like and if they have one for sale..

Thanks
