The choke, rib and 32" barrell makes me think you have someones old trap gun. Is it a graded gun? They are marked trap or skeet if so graded. You can measure to determine if the stock has been cut should you desire getting rid of the white line pad which is not original. Reproductions of the original butt plate are available from Connecticut shotgun. Very original looking gun, other than the pad. If you are lucky the stock may not have been cut down. I do like a good pad on an M-12 for trap, I like extra weight too for a dedicated trap gun. Extra weight and a good pad means I can still shoot my M12, I prefer it's "modern replacement the Super X 1 is my main squeeze for trap.

I came across this just the other day. I know the heat shield has been replaced but was curious about the military marks. If they look legit or not. The serial number comes back as a 1910. It also looks to me like it has been refinished at some point (just looks too good for a 1910).

Mr. Bert H.. I read your article on the 1897 last night. If only I seen it a week ago, I would have known it was safe too fire a non matching shotgun. I really enjoyed the part about training for arieal warfare with the model 1897 in ww 1. I was aware that model 1910s were used in planes early on by the allies. Probably mostly shooting down surveillance balloons. I just thought by 1918 all arieal warfare was fought with mounted machine guns timed too fire through the propellers. I believe the Germans were first to figure it out. That being said, i could see a 12 ga. In a two seater with the passenger covering their 6 with a 1897. Or as usual, im missing something. Thank you for your time and effort on a great read on the history of the Winchester model 1897.

I just need a barrel assembly that has a good fit. It would be awesome to have a working tribute, clone, replica or whatever you want to call it ww 1 era trench gun.
