Yes, these guns have gone wanting on published research for far too long. The 50-70 year old long of barrel and tight of choke shotguns tend to go wanting in the sale department. Consider shortening up that old 30 inch gun and screw choking it. All in cost buying a decent gun and having the work done would be in the 5-600 dollar neighborhood. Sure you can buy a new 12 gauge pump cheaper, but not better.

I understand you're point, but in today's money, $16.00=$579.72, and $21.00=$708.38, in today's dollars!

Just saying! It doesn't sound like much today, until we look at the comparison! IMO!

If I were going to shoot it regularly, speaking only for myself, I would pay my gunsmith to install a Winchester solid red reproduction pad. In which event I would cheerfully give you the original buttplate. The thing that discourages me from.doing that is 1. I don't shoot the gun and 2. The pad and the gunsmith would cost far more than I want to put into the gun!

Your best bet for finding an original buttplate will probably be at gunshows where somebody is trying to sell the takeoffs from gunsmiths who installed pads.

I do suggest you call Lee's Gun Parts, in Irving, Texas. I'm constantly amazed at what he has in his store. Boxes of things.
