… but you sure have to pay to play:

https://greenacressporting.com/product/hornady-82732-leverevolution-32-win-special-165-gr-flex-tip-expanding-20-round-box/

I found it through ammoseek.com  They instantly check availabilty among most distributors.  Just plug in what you are looking for.  I’ve been doing this for .32 Special for months (and others) (basically out of curiosity) and typically it comes back with zero results.  Today was such an unusual occurrence that I thought I would post it.

It’s really surprising that a box of 20 is a nickel shy of $100 given the unpopularity of the cartridge and the fact that, in the whole scheme of things, there just aren’t that many out there.  Plus I can just about guarantee that those picking up a firearm for the first time ever recently would not gravitate towards .32 Special, so this would be likely of interest to someone who has been doing this for awhile and would bristle at these inflated prices.

The price gouging has gotten ridiculous.  My local gun store has dozens of boxes of Remington, Federal, etc of 32 WS on the shelf.  $29 for Federal and $34 for Remington. Even had 9mm for $19 for 50 rounds, but limted to 1 box per person.  Just have to stand in line for 30 minutes to an hour to get in the door.  30-30 on the other hand is a different story.  Can’t find them anywhere except for the ripoff artists online.

How can anyone out there not want to reload?  It was ridiculously expensive not to do so before, and ten times worse now!

When will this nonsense end?  6 months?  A year?  Or do we have to wait at least until 2024 when hopefully a Republican wins the White House?

It’s some of those standing in line (maybe with other family members brought along to evade the “one box” rule) who are the ripoff artists online.  But this store should be commended for not joining in the price gouging!

Big Game season is long over in most places, so why are these fools joining the stampede?  As long as they do, the price gouging will continue.

Not as long as US ammo makers continue giving priority status to huge US gov’t orders & LE.   I’ll never again buy US ammo if I can buy foreign instead.

I think anyone interested in reloading would be quickly dissuaded by the unavailability of primers – and what you actually have to pay to win a batch at a gunbroker auction.

It must be frustrating to be a store owner selling items at standard prices, knowing most that are buying the items (e.g. the guy with six family members in line with him) are just going to put it on an internet auction and make an enormous profit.  Sell a brick of primers to a guy for $40 and he gets $450 to $600 for it on gunbroker.  Sell one brick to each of the six family members he brought along and he makes several thousand dollars – after his gunbroker auctions end seven days later.

I have heard some gun store owners are not putting primers and other high demand items out on the shelves at all – rather they put them straight on gunbroker.  Or, to buy ammo, you’ve got to buy a firearm along with it.

I’ve never seen this level of craziness before.

It was obvious that the Trump administration was a lull before the craziness.  Everyone should have been stocking up then.

I’m a bit more immune to it all as I am well stocked up for quite a long time.

Most of us who reload around here, have done so for many decades – and we tend to be stocked up.  For much of the last year, I’ve heard many shooters who haven’t been reloaders, talk very seriously about getting into it.  Some did, and did it early enough to purchase components before prizes went crazy.  But anyone who waited, sure is out of luck.  What options to they have?  Darts?

As I mentioned, I’ve never seen anything like this before.  It seems people are buying whatever hits the shelves – whether they happen to have a firearm for that cartridge or not.  Panic just creates more panic.

I’ve seen several “shortages” over the years. First primer shortages forced me to buy a rimfire version of my comp gun to practice and conserve my primers for match ammo. I haven’t been caught short since, that was over 30 years ago. If you won’t or can’t reload then you need to prepare for the next “shortage” as soon as the ammo situation returns to normal. And no, my factory rounds and components are not for sale and I’m not allowed to sell my reloads.

I think I’ll go reload 100 32 Specials just to feel like a rich man! 😉

Mike, I’ve been looking at one of those Texas made air guns.  They have up to 350 gr 50 cal versions.  Puts 3600 psi behind the bullet.  Scuba tanks that can be filled to 4500 psi. for recharging. Small tanks for hunting and recharging.

.32 Special is one of my favorites. Have taken a bunch of deer and black bears with the .32 Special. I’m quite surprised to see those prices for ammo. Wonder what the status is for .25-35.

Shoot low boys. They're riding Shetland Ponies.

What kind of velocity can they achieve with a 350 grain 50 caliber bullet?

I just checked for .25-35 through ammoseek.com   One (and only one) distributor has it.  Surprisingly, for less than .30-30 or .32 Special.  I was interested to find it as I had no idea  Hornady was manufacturing their LEVERevolution line in .25-35:

They are quite interesting. When I was more active on a cast bullet forum several members posted about them and a couple of the custom mould makers are making moulds especially for air rifles. Big bore airguns are a good workaround for the current situation. As you may know the Lewis & Clark expedition was armed with air guns to collect biological specimens and possibly camp food. A rifle similar to the ones they used was on display at Cody last time I was there.
