M43 s/n 370066A was factory drilled & tapped for scope blocks on the receiver frame rings. If the barrel or side of the receiver is D&T, then it is aftermarket work. As Jeff mentioned, the rear bridge of the receiver frame has a 45-degree bevel on the specimens that were not factory drilled & tapped.

The Model 70 rifles currently being made in Portugal by FN had some variable quality issues when entire production shifted to there from North Csrolina.

Knowing FN, I expect that has been resolved. However, if I were going to buy one, I would try to buy one from a reputable shop with an inventory of them from which to choose and that had an on-site gunsmith.

That is being ultra conservative but, at a minimum, I would not buy one sight unseen.

Out of box, you should expect to get 1.25 to 1.5 MOA, at least, I'd guess.

I am seriously considering the purchase of the above rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor. The Super Grade is beautiful, and I am wondering about the accuracy of this version of the Model 70. I don't handload so will be shooting factory ammo. I own a Model 70 HB Varmint, purchased new in the early 90's; it easily shoots sub-moa groups. I know the Super Grade was not designed as a bench rifle, but what "typical" accuracy could I expect with premium ammo?

Welcome, Tony! Have fun digging around the old posts and the past issues of the magazines. I'm not an 1866 collector but I'd sure like to hear more about yours. I may have been an 1894 collector when I came here but the wheels fell off...but it's been fun!
