i just bought a new to me Winchester 1892 32 WCF it was built in 1911 i was hoping i could get a value on it and maybe some opinions on if i payed too much for it. the shop wanted $1150 for it and i was able to get it for $900 to start it needs a very good cleaning. the rifling looks good in it i took it to my gunsmith today and he says it is missing an ejector and the parts that go with it. but that it seems to be a good gun other than that the action is tight there is no bluing left on it to speak of it is all in the white if i am using that correctly no cracks in the wood either. the octagon barrel and the Butt plate really did it for me and the first two digits on the serial number is the month and day of my birthday so that didn't hurt. haven't tried to shoot it since the ejector is missing and i also don't have any bullets but everything seems to work like it should.

I kinda like this 1892. A possible shooter with a truckload of character. Only problem is there isn't much demand for a rifle like this one. I really like the cartridge as well, I would have been hard pressed to walk away from it but it's best to focus on guns with more condition, less character.

Okay I guess I'll comment on these, as I'm not impressed with the statement that they are attributed to a well known General who had ties to the demise of Geronimo, and many other accolades in his career. Without several pieces of documentation, verifying the provenance to these pieces, I find it difficult to go after something like this based solely on assumption, and having a few books with the Generals name on them as a reference to these Winchesters! IMHO!

Hey Bert, first off just want to say congrats on 10 years of 94 AE serial number questions, now here is mine. I have a 94 AE serial number #5234114, the Winchester registry shows that it should have been made 1984 but I have heard of some 94 AE receivers being produced in 1983. My questions are was it made either 1984 or 1983 if you know, also I want to ask what is the lowest 94 AE serial number you have seen or know of, it would be interesting to know how early in production mine was produced, thanks.

The Angle Eject (AE) variant of the Model 94 was introduced in the year 1983, and the confusion exists because it was first cataloged in the January 1984 catalog. The has led many people (and past authors) to the incorrectly assume by that the year 1984 is when the USRACo began production of the AE variant.
That stated, I believe that your Model 94 AE was actually manufactured very early in the year 1984, but there is no way to prove that. I do not attempt to track or survey any of the Post-1963 production Model 94s. Therefore, I do not know what the earliest serial number would have been for the AEs.
Bert

Thanks so much, I don't want to ask to many questions but I do have one more. The barrel on my 94 AE is lacking the typical warning marks they started requiring in the late 70's as well as lacking the WP stamping on the receiver, am I correct in assuming it is an example of a transition gun from when US repeating arms company took over the production plant from Winchester? Thanks again for your time.

I do not know what you are referring to by "warning marks". To the best of my knowledge, there were no required "warning" markings in the late 1970s or shortly thereafter.

No, your Model 94AE is not a "transition" gun. The USRACo purchased the original Winchester factory from the Olin Corporation in December of 1980, and then began production in May of 1981.
