So has the new NFA ruling on SBR exempt all trapper model's from the BATF regarding firearms under 16 inches and would the BATF exemption be required to purchase a SBR trapper acquired before the recent NFA ruling?

Pat,

At this time, there is No possible way to predict what the full impact of that ruling will be. However, the ruling does appear to make it a strong possibility that getting a BATF clearance letter for a SBR or SBS will become a thing of the past. For now, I strongly advise keeping any BATF clearance letters you have, and definitely hold off on sending any new requests to the BATF.

Zebulon said it well and I will add.... for 150 years Winchester and other gun companies sourced wood by various means. I'm talking color and maybe grain and burl. I believe 15 Midwest states provided good quality walnut. Early logging provided premium old growth from a region with certain unique local soil, rainfall, and growth maturity. I have heard the major gun manufacturers owned some timber land and leased or contracted for walnut delivery by standards. After 20, 25 years that area and supply was exhausted. Next location. Repeat for 7 time periods, 150 years. I've noticed major 20 year trends of reds, browns, blacks, golden in my collecting time. Think about what you've seen of Winchester, Remington, Marlin, Colt guns for identical 20, 25 year color trends.
