Others are saying the asking price of $10,175 is reasonable, and it is…sort of.  I would be happier at $8000 in today’s market.  And your assessment of the above is true.  The huge spread between what a rifle sells for at auction with all fees and what the seller nets.
Because of this, the Classifieds section of this forum should be vibrant.  And it isn’t.  It seems folks would rather risk netting less at auction in the hopes their prized firearm hammers after a healthy bidding war (and they net significantly more).

  You have to educate the seller and buyer. The seller has to resist the auction company pitch, not as easy as you think when someone is telling you how valuable your gun is. The buyer has to see good pictures and trust the seller. The Forum can help.

I agree that is a very nice rifle!  i don't think that the asking price is unreaasonable.

A buyer's premium is an extra percentage fee added to the winning bid(hammer price) at an auction which the buyer is required to pay.

That is not an unreasonable asking price considering the configuration of the rifle.

The grade of the Walnut and the checkering pattern.  Semi-deluxe (not a term Winchester used) typically have plain (straight) grained walnut stocks with I-pattern checkering.  The Fancy Sporting Rifles will have 2X or 3X walnut stocks with H-pattern checkering.
