Lou, as you know I do enjoy and study original M70s.

That being said i do really like nice wood on a M70. Some of my favorite originals show better than average character of grain and figure.

As for a Biesen in other than a 70 platform, I can certainly admire them but as my mentors have drilled into me.... focus.

My 1894 collection is made of things not mainstream but with provenance maybe just a bet eclectic. I am happy to see that others can enjoy some of the tangents of this hopefully ever expanding hobby.

If i get lucky enough to acquire other fun 70s I will share with all that might enjoy.

I would not "part it out". It would just be 2 parts. The barreled action complete, and the stock with butt plate, swivels, trigger guard, floor plate, and all magazine parts.

I have sold many gun parts, the buyers were very thank full, as they needed the parts for repair or projects, and the parts are difficult to find. I have bought many large and small gun parts myself, needed for repair or a project. Luckily I found someone selling them.

Hi Doug-

My (unsolicited) personal opinion is that collecting custom rifles is a bit like collecting Art... If you like Rembrandt, collect Rembrandt. If you like Picasso, collect Picasso. If you like Biesen, collect Biesen. Art collector follow their own taste (within the limitations imposed by their pocketbooks).

It may or may not be a good "investment strategy" compared to collecting factory original Winchesters/Colts etc., but who cares? Surely the resale market for "factory original" guns is larger, but Art is Art, and the work of these "Old Masters" is surely Art. If I owned it, I wouldn't take the Mona Lisa out in the rain, and I similarly don't buy the argument that "custom" rifles are only "shooters"...

I do like your taste!!! Would you consider a Biesen built on a '98 Mauser (or other action) or are you only a Model 70 guy? Don't worry, I don't own any Biesen (or anyone else's) customs, so I'm not trying to sell something.

This may sound strange. I am selling a 1961 Model 70 Featherweight. Metal is all original and like new, I will say 99% +. Stock is original, has one rub mark on side of butt and a couple of light storage marks. With an excellent set of Buehler rings and mount (not attached).

I am trying to make shipping easy on myself, and thinking of selling the stock and action separately. Would it be a losing proposition? I am looking to get $1K plus shipping. Can't post pictures here.

I know I'm cutting against the grain here (as well as doing a poor job with posting photos) but here is a .32 Special carbine I purchased about 45 years ago. It was made in 1964. I've liked it ever since I bought it. I've killed many deer with it. It functions perfectively and there's no aspect about the finishing or fitting that I can complain about.

Steve, I knew that the Remington -Lee was chamber in a number of cartridges. Pretty impressive for the late 1800's and early 1900's. I love my R-L sporting rifle in .30-40.

Doug, you are an honest man for all that you are adrenaline freak with Texas-size cojones. A lesser man wouldn't have mentioned the .375 Holland.

It's the belly crawl to get within 70 yards of that monster that deserves recognition. I don't know there's enough good Scotch whiskey in Africa to make me think that would be a good idea. Climbing a tree would be more appealing.

But he's a hell of a trophy, even if you probably had to tear out a door frame to get the head on your wall.
