Unfortunately No, it does not help that it is a Take Down.

I currently have (19) Model 1894 Rifles documented in my research survey that are in the 930000 - 930999 serial range, and of that number, (17) of them are Take Downs. Can you post (or send me) a clear close-up picture of the serial number? Digital cameras often times reveal things that we cannot (or do not) see with the naked eye.

I too am of the opinion that the new owner got a very good deal on it, and I won't be shocked to see it show up in a future RIA auction where it will undoubtedly sell for several thousand $$$$ more than what it just sold for.

I have a model 94 30WCF rifle in takedown. Serial number 930xx0. It's missing two of the last three numbers due to damage from trying to take apart with a tool. I was wondering if the missing numbers could be figured out due to it being a takedown.

Just looked up the sling; it's a Hunter Trophy Padded sling; retails for $90 itself.

Also fed some shells through the gun; loads, cycles and ejects fine.

From a car advertisement I read years ago, " Car runs great with good heat and no air , body looks good on a dark rainy night but is actually rougher than a sack of walnuts " . It was cheap so I bought it for the rare engine .

In my opinion it’s way more appealing than something with a black or camouflage synthetic stock. Maybe consider using those factory drilled holes and install a receiver peep.

I don’t think anyone would turn their nose up at that rifle, they just wouldn’t by one of their own. Zebulon has some very detailed posts about the post 64 94s. Sounds like you’ve already read them. Nice looking rifle. I have one just like it. Makes an excellent truck gun and looks pretty.

As a final note on the .308 vs .30/06 thing, from personal experience I can say handloaders should opt for the 30/06 in any standard length bolt gun because factory ammunition -- with now a few exceptions - leaves velocity on the table. In barrels of at least 22 inches, it is not difficult to safely obtain muzzle velocities materially over 3,000 foot seconds with a 150 grain bullet. The .308 is pretty much maxed out at factory ammunition velocities.

The difference becomes even more pronounced with 180 grain bullets, which provide the best combination of trajectory and power for long range shooting. My idea of long range being 300 yards, at a living unwounded creature

However, these velocities are best realized in a rifle with an all up weight of not less than 8.5 pounds because the recoil is increased significantly.

P.S. I've only owned two of them but both my 22" '06 Featherweights, a 1956 and a 1960, weighed about 7 pounds empty and unscoped. Both had Pachmayr pads to factory LOP. Wood density can matter but I think 6.5 pounds is pretty optimistic. No question they weigh less than the standard rifle -- and a hell of a lot less than my 1960 Browning High Power.
