If your rifle previously had a receiver mounted sight or scope it most likely used these holes. The screws that were used to hold the mount onto the receiver can not be used to fill the holes when the mount is removed. The furthest forward hole is finger lever pin stop screw. The finger lever pin stop screw is different between the pre and post 64. If your rifle was made before 1964 you want (wp71d). Post 64 production is part number (C100A). This screw holds the pin in place that connects your finger lever to the bolt. The 2 back holes are filled with plug screws (same for pre and post 64). You have a choice between just a straight plug screw (wp46), or a positive stop plug screw (there is a tiny lip on the Forearm so the screw stops flush with recviever) (wp540a) if you would like the stainless plug screws please order separatly part number wp540b) USE THE DROP DOWN LIST BELOW TO CHOOSE SCREW YOUR SCREW COMBINATION.

I guess I am getting confused by the terminology. The ones I showed on ebay stated "Winchester Model 70/54, Remington 700 6-48 Plug Screws with STOP"

One person stated "They’re either flat on top or have the “stop”, but does that matter? The ones with the stop look very much like the factory plugs when installed IMHO…"

Unfortunately, No they do not. The factory ledger records for the Model 1892 end at serial number 379999 (April 4th, 1907). Per the Polishing Room records, the year 1909 began with serial number 471653. While some earlier production serial numbers (pre 379999) may have been received in the warehouse in 1909, they are not 1909 guns.

Serial numbers 380000+ cannot be lettered.

Brandin, may I make a suggestion? It is one I believe Bert will agree with:

This man's group of 1895s is not a good place to start and Gunbroker is not a good place to look for Winchesters with condition at a decent price.

If possible, hold off until you can attend at least a couple of the large gun shows where collectible Winchesters will be well represented. Ideally, it would be one of the WACA shows - and the one in Cody, Wyoming is coming up very soon.

Another, not a WACA show only, is the big show in Oklahoma City. It's huge.

If not those, the collector shows in your home state.

You can lay hands on a lot of guns and begin to get a grip on how much condition you can afford. As an investment, it is far better to have one collectible quality rifle than 4 shooters, although there's nothing wrong with the latter if priced to reflect its lack of condition.

What you want to avoid is paying the price of a collectible for a shooter grade piece.

May I suggest you quit messing with eBay and become familiar with Brownells? You will eventually need them and you can call them on the phone and discuss exactly what you want. They are the premier supplier to the gunsmithing trade. Use eBay when you are more familiar with what you need.

Does it have H-pattern or I-pattern checkering? Winchester used what was referred to as "select" grain wood for the early production Take Down rifles, and they usually do not have an "X" or "XX" marked on the lower tang.

All of the rifles are in well used condition and in < 80% graded condition.
Of the four rifles, the 303 British is not a collector grade rifle. Due to the fact that it has aftermarket checkered stocks and the non-factory installed receiver mounted Redfield peep sight, it is a "shooter" grade rifle.
Of the other three rifles, the 405 WCF is the most desirable (higher potential value), followed by the 30-03, with the 30-06 bringing up the rear.
The first thing I would check for the 405 WCF and the 30-03 rifles is the Take Down lock-up to verify that they are still tight (no wobble or loose fit). For the 30-06, the area of concern is the bolt headspace. Bore conditions would be next on my list.
Based on what I can see of each rifle, the value for the entire package is no more than $10K.
