]]> Sun, 09 Aug 2026 18:07:31 +0000 1892takedown on 25-35 on GB https://winchestercollector.org/forum/winchester-rifles/25-35-on-gb/#p182727 Winchester Rifles https://winchestercollector.org/forum/winchester-rifles/25-35-on-gb/#p182727 Agreed here, the receiver finish has no issues.  Usually when these go through a fire there will be streaks in the blue or beaded areas in the blue i where blue is missing.  This looks like the normal flaking then a period of time where it was used and the receiver started to patina.  It really doesnt take long for a receiver to go from flaked silver to patina when in use and not cleaned for periods of time after subject to moisture, sunlight or combination of both.  Unfortunately it got the hole drilled in the receiver.

In viewing the pictures of the rifle, the condition of the receiver frame is original, and it is actually quite typical of the late 1920s bluing issue.  I am not seeing anything that would lead me to believe that the receiver frame has been artificially cleaned, or subjected to a fire, or to any harsh chemicals.

What I do see is the extra hole bored in the upper tang, and a non-original (replaced) rear sight.
