I love Winchester lever rifles, but I’m still new to the game and have plenty to learn. Sooooo, what the heck is a .32 w.s.? Recently came across a ’92 in rifle configuration in this caliber. Price was under $1k, but condition wasn’t great and I’ve never seen ammo or even reloading components for this caliber. A little info will be appreciated.

Hello Jim,

The Model 1892/92 line of rifles was offered in 32 WCF which is different from 32 WS which was offered in the Model 1894/94 rifles.
You might look at these:

Thanks for the links, Michael. Your reply left me slightly confused (my wife would tell you it’s my regular state) because this is definitely a model 1892, and it’s clearly marked .30 w.s. (lower case) and there was no evidence of other roll stamping or changes in caliber designation. If this was a model ’94 caliber, then would this model ’92 be unusual or even have a ’94 barrel? Thanks . . .

Jim,

I am a bit confused. Winchester never used lower case letter in the caliber designation stamp on their rifles. It sounds like the barrel is surely non original to the gun. Can you post some photos of the gun, the serial number, and the barrel stamps?

Thanks
Michael

The rifle was sold, so I can’t verify anything. I trust the members here far more than any seller I’ve met, so I believe it had to have been a model 1894 or a rifle that was somehow altered, rebarelled, or otherwise monkeyed with. Again, thanks for your input.
