What are the titles for Catalogs 1 through 38?


I do not have that information. My Winchester catalog collection begins with No. 39 in the year 1885 (coincident with the introduction of the Single Shot model).


Why does that not surprise me. Is this catalog actually marked #39? The earliest I’ve seen is #43. June 1887, Arms and Ammo. There are many Win Catalogs that are not marked.

I will have to dig it out of the pile and look at it.

Bert, I have basically the same list. I'm sure you have the ones by New Haven Arms started in 1863/5 too. Maverick has a long list of catalogs that are not in the 12 Volume set.

1904, but first listed in the 1905 catalog.

Thanks Bert. A number of Winchester's firearms came out before they were listed in the catalogs. At least the catalogs that are presently available. I believe that not all of the catalogs were found and copied.

1904, but first listed in the 1905 catalog.

This is no different in the same Model 95, as the .35 caliber was introduced well over a year before the catalog introduction, as stated in Rob and Brad's Book.

Nice inheritance. Thank you for the photos and information.

Yes, 34652 one of the earliest serial numbers for a .405. The very earliest is probably 5496, sn applied in December 1897, but with warehouse dates in March 1904. The earliest warehouse dates seem to be mid-1903.

You might want to double check the serial number applied date with the Records Office. I looked at some other factory letters around that serial number range. I think it might be 1902 instead of 1901.

I recently inherited this rifle, hopefully this info is useful. I didn't know anything about these rifles before getting it so correct me if I'm wrong. It seems like a pretty early 405 judging by the serial number and I'm curious where it puts it with the other documented ones.

Serial #: 34652

Type: Standard rifle

Chamber: .405

Barrel: 24"

Sights: Not sure

Buttplate: Steel shotgun

From the factory letter:

Serial number applied Feb. 6, 1901

Received in warehouse Feb. 29, 1904

Shipped from warehouse March 4, 1904

'30 barrel date. Not able to get a picture of the stamp. It took several tries to get a clear view of the 'Date Stamp". I could not get a viewable photo RDB

It could be anything from "26" to "30" as Winchester manufactured stainless steel barrels from 1926 - 1930. The serial number on your M53 rifle corresponds to the year 1930.

Hope these will do. The "DATE" stamp under the magazine ring is not photographable and almost unviewable! It appears to be a "30"! Impossible? It is very difficult to make out. Rotate one way it looks likr "28" or "25" then turn a little and it's "30". I am 82 and use readers, this is most likely the problem! RDB
