Hi Keith,

Great info! Keep up the good work!

I am not knowledgeable about the Model 1200 at all and I am looking forward to your book. I did have one comment, the serial numbers listed below the photos do not match the serial number in the photo in a number of cases. On the last photo page for instance the printed number of 478149 shows a photo of "478419" (numbers transposed), L569828 shows L569826, 570147 shows 570247 and L1229171 shows L1229172. Those are only some of the number discrepancies on the last page, there are others on the previous pages as well..

I don't know how that affects the accuracy of your survey but you may want to carefully double check your numbers with the photos.

Best Regards,

I went through the 4 books I have that talk about Winchester Military shot guns. The only one that has info on the barrel address is, US Winchester Trench and Riot Guns and other US Combat Shotguns by Joe Poyer. Mine is the 2nd and probably the last edition. Joe Poyer is no longer with us. Serial numbers 109,000 to 190,000 have makings on both sides. #912,000 to 1,027,000 are left side only. Mine is left side only and was one of the civilian shotguns that were converted.

I hang out with Joe's co author on many of his books. He might know where there might be a book.

I am not, Michael. I started compiling my list with SNs posted in this topic by late Richard Calver and added SN of my carbine. God knows where I grabbed that serial, so let's leave it as "under question".

I have seen it twice on Gunbroker. The first time back in 2012 out of Sula, MT and then again out of Vinemount, AL. I am feeling pretty confident that my listing is correct.

As for for monitoring Canadian market. I monitor auctions, some Canadians stores that specialize in vintage firearm, local gunshows. I plan to continue to share my finds with you and Bert (in case of 1894s). I suppose the only thing you can monitor remotely is auctions - go to iCollector, filter by Canada and Firearms/Guns type of auctions. Big 3 of Canadian gun auctions are Switzer, Landborough and Ward. Mind that descriptions are not always to be trusted. Last Switzer auction had 751585 listed as "DCP marked" gun.

It was a good exercise to do and I found I had entered SN 777700 twice in my spreadsheet. I have amended it and the relevant posts in this thread.

I am no Excel wizard by any stretch. I can obviously search via different columns and progressions of columns to isolate a certain configuration or characteristic. This is sorted on "Other Information" where i note Things like proof stamps of engraving styles or anything that is typically not consistent over the entire production and therefore I do not have dozens of more columns with info in very few of them.
