It appears to be an authentic 1943 production Model 97 Trench Gun.

Thank you Bert for the confirmation. Other than using it for a conversation piece I will use it for a trench gun clone. I think that would be the best use of the receiver and I can enjoy a 97 trench gun. Roger

The receiver frame you have with S/N 953659 was most likely originally a WW II Trench Gun, and it is actually not "in the white".  It still has approximately 70% of the factory bluing still on it.  Per the factory records, it was manufactured in February 1943.

Has anyone got any Winchester Gun Cards like the ones in "Fig. 4.7.Z. Model 1200 Trench Gun Production Cards" the Z means I have not yet modified Chapter 4.7 to include it.

The information on the cards is of interest, as they give the date the gun was Proofed and the date it was shipped, and, with the Date of Stamping (from the Stamping Foreman’s Notebook), gives the delay from Stamping to Proofing, the days elapsed from Stamping to Shipping, and the days from Proofing to Shipping.   I have estimated the size of the Cards by scaling the images on the Quarto Backing Sheet.  There are five to a page.  I would really appreciate accurate dimensions of these cards from someone who has an original.  As well, I would appreciate cards from any of the post 1960 Winchesters.

On another matter, at least 692 Model 1200 Trench Guns were sold to foreign countries in 1970-71 under the Military Assistance Program.  A knowledge of these individual serial numbers would be of assistance in narrowing the serial number ranges of the four Army Purchase Orders.

To get these figures one would have to a make a Freedom of Information (FOIA) request.  Below is a link to the FOIA website. The Author is not able to make a FOIA request directly to AMSAC, DSSA or MAP, but some of you Military specialists probably could at FOIA Website:  FOIA.gov - Freedom of Information Act

There are probably programs run by some specific Government Department or Agency, and one would have to make the FOIA request to the specific agency that runs the program. Based on a document detailing the transfer of Trench Guns to a Police Department, I think the place to start is the Anniston Army Depot.

If anyone would like to have a go, I can provide the countries, the number of guns, and the date.  Also included are the other Trench guns bt Winchester, Remington, Ithica and others.
