About the buckhorn sight. I've listened patiently to condescending explanations that you use it like an aperture sight and just look through it and put the bead on the target. In other words, the eye will center itself in the brightest part of a semicircle.  
Bravo Sierra. I don't believe it. For one thing, it isn't close enough to the eye and, more importantly,  light will enter asymetrically. Tang sights and Lyman 21/38 receiver sights were the marksman's preference for a reason, even for snapshooting. 
Original a full buckhorn may be but so was the chamber pot. Leave it in or sell it to a sight collector. Install a Lyman 1a and whatever higher front sight that requires, if you want a "usin' gun." Your eyes will thank you. 
  

That makes a lot of sense. Trying to set the post in the notch I was still moving 2” vertically but was dead on for windage.  I have an 1885 45-70 Uberti.  It has a full buckhorn. I have been thinking about getting a tang sight for it.

Nice! Been getting any rain? No shooting here today, would have to duct tape the rifles to the concrete bench, a folding table would have dumped everything and led a merry chase.

Yes, the rain has been coming regularly.  The pasture is going yield some good round bales.  It’s a little windy here.  Thankfully not so bad when I was shooting.  The 17 hmr I was sighting in drifted about 3 inches at 120yds with a 5-10 mph crosswind.  At 35 yds I was shooting the numbers on the target.

I do have it (and several other reload recipes).  Before a began using Hodgdon's Lil Gun powder, my go to was Alliant 2400.  Currently, I am loading with 13.5 grains of Lil Gun under a 40 gr Hornady V-Max.  Per Hodgdon's references, the Lil Gun produces less pressure, but higher velocities.  The load I am using is producing 3,200 fps in my Model 54 22 Hornet rifle, with exceptional accuracy.

Sounds like a possible win-win. I believe I have a surplus of 4350. 

I hesitate to offer a room to a .Marriott but, if you should tire on your way West, our guest room is yours. And Barbara is a superb cook.

I have some extra FFG black and just might trade for some smokeless like slower versions in the 4350 or RE-7, whatever you have.I have an original 1885 in 45-60, along with the 1878 and 1874 Shiloh Sharps, with an original half-magazine 1915 1886 in 45-70.

West of TX is an interesting place called NM. I have been successful there with antelope, ducks, and geese. You are closer than I am now. If you still need some BP toward Fall-I will be headed west. Used to shoot a .50 caliber Sharps there with 700 gr bullets until someone took it off my hands...

This place is legit? I ask because it has powders that have been out of production for years. Such has Buffalo Rifle, Universal. I got a cart full of powder to buy but hesitant on legitimacy. Also because it asks for chime, zelle, app things I don't know what they are or use, not regular cc payments. That's a huge red flag for me.
  

I have my concerns as well, prices are below what I expected and they have powders we haven't seen in awhile. I will only use a credit card, no debit or Zelle. I think some of the powders we have been missing for awhile will be produced this year but that may be wishful thinking.
