I do wish one of the foreign powder makers would pick up and replicate SR4759. Maybe the potential.demand for it is too small and I can't see that because I find it so useful. 

I have to give Bert credit for encouraging me to buy a good supply of Lil Gun when Midway got some in. It is a powder I didn't see as useful in the tiny quantities the Hornet case can use. But it is excellent for the caliber.

For those that are curious, the current cost to reload for the Hornet is 38-cents per round (bullet, primer, & powder) as opposed to $70+ per box of 50 for Remington/Winchester/Hornady factory new ammo.

250 Hornady V-Max 40 grain bullets = $50.14 (50.14/250 = $.20 per bullet)

CCI 400 primers = $86.99 per 1,000 ($.087 per piece)

Hodgdon Lil'Gun powder = $46 per 1 lb, (7,000 grains/13.5 grains = 518 loads per pound) or $.089 per ctg.

Among all the departed, however, an Anschutz Model 1722 was the standout. It, too, was built on the Match 54 action and had a superb trigger. It was easily the most accurate and accounted for many Rio Grande gobblers and (in Brown County, where the population of G. m. Intermedia was out of control and either sex was legal in the Fall) large hens. 

The only problem with the Anschutz was its rear locking action that allowed Hornet cases to stretch and would soon result in case separations if they were reloaded more than once or twice. Had I kept the rifle I would have had it rechambered to K-Hornet to give it a decent shoulder. The #1 has no such deficiency. 

My point: The Hornet, in the hands of a handloader, makes the Magnum Rimfire expensive surplus. 

As a matter of interest:

Ruger has, for the time being, ended production of the #1 and #77 -- the customers who wanted one of each, like me, have got them. The last years of production of the #1 were sold exclusively to Cabela/Bass Pro, which had complete control of each year's single caliber and configuration. Cabela knew how to market the #1 better than Sturm Ruger and was willing to tag them at $2K retail in order to upgrade the wood and the trimmings. Mine has Walnut I spotted 50 yards away from the display rack and turned down guns in unopened boxes in order to buy it for the Walnut.  Case colored receiver and lever, stiff contour 24" barrel but with Alex Henry forearm and ramped and quarter ribbed iron sights. Copious checkering and a red pad. It's a show dog that can hunt. And the 77 is a 6.5 SE African style that loses the boxy look of the standard gun. Fuzz your eyes and its a Holland magazine gun. 

 I'm going to resist the unworthy temptation to unload these at an immoral price to Simple Simon who thinks they're rare....

$1.06 per round is ridiculous for rim fire ammo.  I can buy the Winchester Super-X 40 grain JHP for $13.49/box ($26.98 for 100-rounds or $107.92 for 400-rounds). 22wmr ammo - MidwayUSA

I will happily shoot it instead and will suffer with the 1.19" group size.

Paul,  The Kimber of Oregon startup, rise and demise is a classic lesson for would-be entrepreneurs -- a good product introduced at the right time, polished by wise and timely advice into a blockbuster product for which there was great demand, inadequate capitalization, reckless expansion, running out of money, failure and bankruptcy.  The first lesson in corporate finance ought to be "You can't eat [or pay employees and suppliers with] accounts receivable." 

The Kimber of Oregon 82 rimfires and a mini-Mauser .223 Rem. rifle I owned did not rest in a gunsafe but were used in the field, albeit carefully. The WMR slew Rio Grande turkeys, loaded with that same Super X 50 grain FMJ round. 

After I finally got my Winchester 52C Sporting, the Kimbers went down the road because aggressive collectors kept forcing money down my throat. The Clackamas rifles were beautifully made and equally accurate but they just couldn't match the charisma of my somewhat bedraggled Sporter.
