I completely understand the term "Pr-War", but is there some serial number ranges that help out with the Pr-war designation, as WW ll started, 9/1/1939, and the M-75 began production 1938.
The 22 lines per inch checkering, vs. the 18 lines per inch, is an obvious distinction, but I was wondering if there was a cut off date, or serial number.

For the U.S., WW II did not begin until late in the year 1941. Winchester halted production of all the various Sporting firearm models in the May - August 1942 time period. For the Model 94, it was August 23rd, 1942 at serial number 1343183, and that is the cut-off for "pre-war".

Thanks Bert,

As I'm in agreement with you're WW ll statement here in the U.S. I know we can sometimes split hairs, but it does help with clarification. IMO!

Hi Tony,
According to the polishing room records, the last Model 75 serial number applied before the war ended was 45365, applied on January 31, 1943. Any Model 75 number after that was assembled after WWII ended and is considered "post-war".
Best Regards,

Thanks Jeff,

So you're saying the M-75's made during the war, and up to #45365, (besides the actual ones made before the beginning of the start of the war), are to be considered PR-War models?

I do understand the post war made after this serial number!

My first time responding to a thread on this forum. My fiance Jo and I own four of these original banners. We own two model 61, one model 62 and one Super W Speed banners and have displayed them with our gun collections at Cody recently. These banners were made in 1932 to advertise these products. If you had original banners and repro banners side by side the repros would jump out as too bright because of the enhanced brighteners and dyes used in modern post war papers. Also, most original banners will have been folded once or twice when they were mailed. Inspect the paper for wrinkles, dirt on the paper and folded corners or small tears. After all these banners are 94 years old and were meant to be thrown away.

Hi Bill, thanks for your first post. Can you advise if your original banners show the model number partially covered up the same as the ones here we’re discussing from eBay? The 61 is only slightly covered at the bottom but, the 62 a lot more and I wouldn’t think they would do that 🤷🏼‍♂️

Bill,

My two posters have folds, the colors are bright, and the dimensions match exactly what Schwing illustrates. By any chance can you post a couple of pictures of yours?

Thanks,

Again.............beautiful grain! This model seems to have more surviving 'high condition" specimens as compared to other's in the Winchester lineup.

Maybe they cost a bit more so they weren't as quickly handed off to kids to take out in the woods and fields???

Rick C. The first time that I saw either of these banners my thoughts were why would Winchester partially cover up the model number or the Winchester name. I guess the focal point was the product. I looked at the eBay banners, and they are identical to the originals except for the brightness and the folds.

Mike,

A nice group you have assembled there. As you're well aware of, these have always been fun to shoot.

Thanks for sharing!

BRP,

You're extremely nice M-75 is very much appreciated here by us all. You're descriptions of the sights, and explaining the enhanced functions really helped me to understand their intended purposes, bringing to light this nice set up, the original owner seemed to have ordered. What a nice example.
