Got bid up when it went live as 2 bulls locked horns. Someone overpaid but hopefully it is going to a personal collection and a good home but won’t be surprised if we see it on GB shortly!

In this case, the use of the adjective "oldest known" is pure hyperbole.
All (91) of the identified and documented Model 94/95 hybrid Carbines were manufactured in the year 1928, including the one listed in that auction. Per the PR records, it was manufactured on 1/26/1928. The "youngest known" (last) 94/95 hybrid was manufactured less than 11-months later on 11/12/1928. The vast majority of the 94/95 hybrids were manufactured in June - September of 1928.
Bert

So it is in essence a #1 of a 91 production limited edition? 😉

Actually, it is an unknown # of the 1,303 total production.

I have to say…

If you want QUANTITY, It’s there, but looking through many of the Winchesters being offered in this auction, I was very disappointed in the condition of all of them.

At best, unless I missed a few or maybe I should say relative to the 1885s, 1886s, 1892s, 1894s, and 1895s, this auction is for little more than placeholders—fills a spot until something nicer comes along.

I know that when they sell entire collections there is a good likelihood that some will have problems, I know there are some in my collection! I would think Poulin's approach would be best in the long run unless they depend on the low information, well capitalized buyer. I've come to realize that description writing is an art, practiced by many but mastered by few.
