That would be fun. Back in the old days there was a monthly mag that came out, called the the Yankee Magazine, and every month they had a quiz call "what is it". I was always some old and obscurer  farm implement  and we would sit with my grand father and try to figure out what it was. Spoiler alert, he almost always knew.

There is a lot of information and a great effort uploaing it all.

In addition to the Model 1873, the Hawaiian Guard also had Winchester Model 1876 Lever-action repeaters and Winchester Single Shot Muskets in their inventory.

Hey Bert! 

Thanks for getting back to me, yeah I've been looking through their rosters and rifle distribution documents. I'm searching for the Winchester 1873's because those were the ones recorded to have been used by both rebels and CGH at the time of the counterrevolution. Trying to track those rifles to the present day as best I can

I'm guessing it is a snap on rear sight rib--- to improve view of the front bead on a shotgun.
