Where did you find the information? The 1879 catalog lists the rifle as $35, set trigger $4, fancy stock $5, checkered stock and forearm $5, Pistol grip, fancy, checkered $15, case hardening $1.

The loop is actually the spring that makes the staff snap in place. You can change the position the staff stays at by loosening the nut on the other side and rotate the loop.

So here's a Question on the early Lyman Tang Sights.

Why does the Lyman Tang Sight have a "loop" at the base of the stem, where it's held onto the base of the sight?

Here's a picture of what I'm asking. Several more could be posted or found, but I chose to keep it simple.

https://lymanproducts.com/media/user/file/s/i/sight_2_tang_site_installation.pdf

For my simple mind, I'm thinking that it's a simple remedy, or idea when the sights we're first designed, as an easier thought in the field, to stick something in the "Loop", to unscrew the bolt, holding the sight stem to the base to loosen it. The small pocket screw drivers weren't yet available or a leather man tool, as they art today.

That is an interesting comparison. The value of those today could be if each coin contains 0.9675 troy ounces of fine gold, giving it a baseline melt value based purely on its weight. At current gold prices (~$4,185/oz), the base melt value alone for a single coin is roughly $4,050, making three coins worth at least ~$12,150 purely in raw gold content.
So is a 100% original 45-75 WCF caliber Rifle with Set Trigger, Fancy checkered stocks with case hardened finish worth $12,150.00?

Possibly so.

I'm not an expert on current 1876 values... but with those options, and if the condition was "as new"... looks pretty close to me...with gold in the $4,200 range, is $12,500 in the ballpark for your "example"? I'm sure caliber would seriously effect values too... anyway, thanks... I'm always curious about the "old" things I collect compare to when they were new. cheers. Ben

I do not have a copy of a price list from 1877. From the info compiled by Ron Stadt, he stated that there was a March 1st, 1877 Revised Price List. He does not mention a August 10th, 1877 list.
Chuck is correct, in the aspect that the next catalog in the Bound Armory Publications 1991 Reprint on WRACo catalogs, the next catalog after the 1875 catalog is for 1879.
There are May 1st, 1878 Catalog reproductions that are not overly difficult to find and show up from time to time.
Listed in Ron's research is the 1875 1st & 2nd Issues. A 1876 catalog. The March 1st, 1877 Revised Price List. A March 1st, 1878 catalog of 50 pages. A May 1st, 1878 Catalog of 64 pages. A August 1st, 1878 Catalog of 63 pages with also a Spanish & Chinese Editions. Then the May 1st, 1879 Catalog.
Aside from Ron's list, I have not meet or talked with any collector that actually has a 1876 and/or 1877 Catalog / Price List. They must be exceedingly rare.
Also, per Ron's research there is a 1st and 2nd Issue of the 1875 Catalog. My understanding is that there may have also been a 3rd Issue for 1875.

All that said Bill, What are you trying to gleam from the 1877 Revised Price List?
Sincerely,
Maverick

Maverick and group,

It is Herbert G. Houze that listed an August 10, 1877 date for the four page price list. It's in his Model 1876 book on pages 109-110. Note this is not the complete price list, just the 1876 portion. I presume the original is in the Cody Firearms Museum collection. It appears that Ron Stadt believes the price list update was dated March 1, 1877.

I want price lists/catalogs prior to the May 1879 catalog as I have a Model 1876 rifle SN 1270 that went into the warehouse April 11, 1878. It would most likely been ordered using a 1877 year price list.

Does anyone have a PDF or similar for Winchester's Price List dated August 10, 1877? It seems to have been a supplement to the 1875 catalog and introduced the Model 1876.

There is no mention of the 76 in the 1875 catalog. This catalog is not dated other than 1875. The next catalog, 1879, has the first data for the 76. There is some pricing on the 76 models and special order items.
