…sight?

Hi Jeremy,

I'm pretty confident either of these sight elevators will fit your rear sight that is currently mounted on your model 1890. In addition to these, I also have one for sale that has the patent date stamping.  Send me a PM if you are interested in any of these.

Pictured is my 1890 and the rear elevator is missing. If I'm not mistaken, this isn't a 32A rear sporting sight, but a semi-buckhorn...may not be original, but I'm

…flaking.  That is for the most part going to be determined/decided by the specific buyer.  For those of us that understand that all of the Model 1890/90 rifles manufactured in the 22 LR cartridge were produced during the "flaking" time period, the odds of finding one without any flaking are very

… Just recently inherited some Winchester rifles and shotguns. Several model 12s, a 42, some 37s. Also some 70s, a 62A (my grandfathers), 1906 and 1890 I believe, and a 52. A bit overwhelmed at the moment. Thanks for the welcome.

Timothy,

Don't get confused with the .22 WRF, (Winchester Rim Fire, developed 1890), and the .22 Winchester Automatic,(Developed in 1903, specifically for the Win. 1903, semi auto, only).

In your post, it sounds like you…

Two completely different .22 caliber rounds. Just trying to help clarify and not start any arguments. Nice find, Enjoy your model 1890.

Cartridge illustrations in 1890s WRA catalogs are labeled Colt, so assume likewise on the cartridge box.

…1901, though for some models it was June 1901.  At the time Winchester ceased case color finishing, only the Single Shot, Model 1886, and Model 1890 were standard with that finish.

…there probably is some but it is not needed with standard loads.  Buy what you like.  If you are looking for a "cowboy era gun" get a 73.  By the 1890's the West had already been won.

…I share with many of you is my recent ownership of a Model 1873, cal. 44-40. The serial number begins with 4315, suggesting it was produced in 1890. I bought the gun as a rifle described as having a 24" barrel, but on measuring it I recorded 30." I reached out to my other forum, the Colt Forum,

It sold (not to me), but if I remember correctly it was a 1909 manuf date (per WACA website) model 1890 in 22 Long. It had a round combination front sight (flip style). I closed the browser tab on my phone already so I lost the S/N I entered....

…is a 22 pump Winchester. It's not in the best shape, but I found it interesting that the barrel is marked '06, but the serial number came back to an 1890 from 1927. Evidently they put a 06 barrel on their 1890. I't's more curious that they would take the trouble to do this. It does work sorta, as it…

…if that can be corrected. If not I'm not out much.

I know (I think I know) that Winchester made replacement barrels for the older black powder 1890's and marked them as '90. Always something new with old guns.

It most certainly is "off".  The UT marking on that rifle is the first style found on the First and early Second variation Model 1890 rifles.  The rest of the rifle is a correct late Third variation Model 90. Bert H. said

…to just say Winchester?  I have a 1924 gun that only has the Winchester with the Trade Mark above and the Patent below.  Around 1919 the Model 1890's were changed to Model 90's.  This could be a transition from old parts to new parts.
