Out this afternoon for a short rabbit (snowshoe hare)hunt.Decided to take the old Winchester Model 9422 along. Was able to bag two rabbits with the rifle, all I saw. :)

Any one else using their Model 9422 rifles in the field?Purchased mine new back in 1978.

BBQ that rabbit 28gauge?

No 9422 here, but I did load some reduced loads for the 1894 30WCF for head shots on smaller stuff.  I need practice with that particular rifle.  Snowshoe hare are finally on the comeback here.  Starting to see some tracks around and getting an urge to hunt them.  I added something chambered in 25-20 to the list recently.  I have .22s rimfires but hand loading for them is not an option for me!

Using a reduced load in your .30-30 for use on rabbits sounds like it would be a lot of fun. What grain bullet did you load?

I load that 125 gr. Sierra.  I’m sure it’s overkill.  I have had a hard time getting accurate with that bullet at 100yds+ and I have other bullets that do better with this particular rifle so I will use them up plinking at stuff.  I can’t think of what the starting load data is for the powder I’m using off the top of my head, but I’m under that load by a hare.

Too bad the bullet is not more accurate for you at the longer distances.Should still be good for  the close ranges snowshoe hare are bagged at though.

Seems to me I read somewhere that in the old days Winchester use to load reduced loads for small game in some of their larger calibres.
