I might have a chance to purchase a first model 1873 carbine in 44-40.  I won’t know condition till I see it. Price he wants is also not know. I know it has a 4 digit serial number. What would be some ball park figures for poor condition up to excellent. He also has a letter for it

Tony,

A 4 digit 1st model covers a big value range. Starting out at serial number 1000 with a raised thumb print dust cover and reverse rear sight which could be worth $7000 in poor condition once you get out of the raised thumb print range it will drop to maybe $3000-4000. A standard SRC around 50% condition would be around $15,000 and a early one would be around $20,000-$22,000. Once you get to excellent condition your into the $30,000  and beyond for any SRC.
