The serial number on my Model 94 is 7 characters long. The last 6 are numbers but the first appears to be a lower case “l”. Were these numbers hand stamped and is it possibly a “1”? Thank you.

Chuck,

Yes, it is a “1”. The “1” digit die was poorly cut by the tool & diemaker. My is that the serial number on your Model 94 is somwhere in the 1.27 -1.32 million range. I have observed a substantial number of them with odd looking “1” leading digits.

Thank You! The number 1 as the first character would place it around 1947 from most lists of serial numbers I have seen. I think my Dad bought it used sometime in the fifties. It also has the number 47 stamped in the receiver just in front of the trigger. The quality of the forged steel action is something you don’t see anymore.

Chuck.

What is the serial number (or at least the first four digits)? 1947 is too late for the “1” digit anomaly.

Bert, Serial # is 1282161. What do you think I have here? It appears to be a pre-64 and it is chambered .32 Winchester Special. Thanks, Chuck.

Chuck:

I am sure Bert will get back with you with a more accurate date but, for the time being, your 94 is from 1941.

I have a real clear photo of the Serial # on my email if that would help- I could try to figure out how to send it. Chuck.

Chuck,

It is a pre-WW II, manufactured mid-year 1941.  Send the pictures of it to me at [email protected]
