Bert,

Have we ever created a list of all the various Winchester surveys going on and the WACA members who are doing them? Can we post a sticky with this information to attract more input? Here are the ones I am aware of but feel free to edit this post and add the others I may have missed. I just wanted everyone to be aware of the folks looking for input to add to the surveys, especially new members. I’m sure there are more, but these are the first ones that came to mind.

1894 sight variations – hedley lammar

Model 61 – twobit

Model 1892 all variations – twobit

Model 1892 takedowns – 1892takedown

Model 53 – win38-55

Model 65 – BertH

Model 55 – BertH

Model 64 – BertH

Model 71 – BertH

Model 1894/94 354,000 to 1,000,000 – BertH

Model 1894 first models – BertH

Model 1894/94 short rifles – pdog72

Model 1873 Deluxe engraved short rifles – wallyb

Gary,

I believe that we have posted a list more than once, but it might not be a bad idea to create a separate forum titled “Winchester Research Surveys”. The more people we can get involved the better.

In addition to what you listed, I am also surveying the following;

Model 1885 (serial numbers 110000 – 140000)

Model 1893

Model 1894 Spruce Guns

Model 94/64 PCMR carbines/rifles

Model 43

OK… I went and did it!  We now have a new forum dedicated to those of us who simply have too much time on our hands, and have started surveys!

I will put together an Excel spreadsheet with names and surveys in progress, and leave it open for editing.

Bert,

I don’t know if you are still interested, but I just received info from Cody that my 1893 shotgun actually left the factory with a 20″ barrel…making it 1 of the 645.

Serial Number is B 31255

It shipped Dec 8, 1896 as part of Order #107.

Now if I just knew who it went to…

Benton,

Yes, I most certainly am still interested. There were actually just (584) 20-inch barreled Riot Guns made, and only (586) total Model 1893 shotguns listed with a 20-inch barrel. Your Riot Gun was part of a five gun order.

Bert, if you are still collecting model 65 data, I have one: #1,007,501.  32-20 WIN 24″ barrel.  If you desire any additional information I would be happy to provide.  I am new to forum and have several other Winchesters that may of help in other surveys as well.  Thank you.

Hello Kevin,

First, thank you for participating in the research survey!

If your Model 65 is a 32 WCF, the barrel should only be 22-inches long. Only the 218 Bee had a 24-inch barrel length. Is your rifle a standard or a deluxe? Does it have standard open sights?

Bert,

the rifle has checkering, but does not look like factory checkering, no grip cap or swivels.  Standard open sights.  Caliber marking is 32-20 WIN and barrel is a measured 24″.  Barrel markings look correct as factory, with WP proofmark on barrel. I will try and take some photos this evening and attach.

Kevin,

I suspect that you may have a parts clean up rifle, and Winchester used a Model 43 barrel. If you are up to it, please check the barrel date on the underside of the barrel (right next to where it screws into the receiver frame). Your will need to remove the forend nose-cap, magazine tube, and stock to see it.

Bert,

I removed the forearm and magazine tube this evening.  Bottom or barrel has 50, is marked 32 WCF and has a filled dovetail 1″ from the face of the receiver.

Kevin,

Can you send me clear pictures of the barrel markings (both top and bottom) ?
